Who We Are
LEMC (Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church) has a history in the Listowel community that goes back to the humblest of beginnings in 1926. We haven´t always been called LEMC as the name, the faces, the locations, the vision and more have transformed over time. But these early foundations have remained as part of our heritage – not dictating the present and the future but rather giving LEMC a solid, well rounded history.
The one thing that has not changed and will not change is that LEMC is dedicated to presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ and that He is the Saviour, the One who heals our hurts and the One who sets people free! If God would allow LEMC to be on this earth for another 80 or more years, may these truths never be compromised or watered down. To do this would be to lose sight of those humble beginnings, our solid foundation and to the very Word of God!
Yet LEMC is not your ordinary (if we can use that term) church! Yes, we bring the teachings of the Bible every week but not always in a lecture, classroom style. There is time to interact while utilizing a variety of media outlets (i.e. drama, video clips, and dramatic presentations), plus lots of great music.
LEMC is made up of people from every walk of life who come together to celebrate the love and goodness of God. Everybody´s story and journey is different but we all have them! That´s what makes LEMC so exciting, people coming and growing together as we seek God and all that He has for us. One thing is for sure, it is rarely dull around here…and when you don’t see our church members in the church? It’s likely that they’re in the community.
We believe that God has created LEMC to be a FAMILY church, meaning that we strive to minister to the family as a whole from babies in the nursery to seniors and every age in between. While we have ministries that are age specific our desire and vision is to see all ages growing together as the family of God to be fully devoted followers of Christ. We want to create environments where people are encouraged and equipped to pursue intimacy with God, community with insiders, and influence with outsiders.
Purpose/Mission: Make Christ Known In All We Say and Do
Process/how we go about our mission: By Loving God, Loving Others and Serving the World
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
We desire to draw close to God and glorify Him through passionate and sincere worship.
We hunger for preaching and teaching that brings encouragement, challenge and change being firmly rooted in the truth of God’s Word and anointed by the Holy Spirit.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
We are devoted to gathering regularly in large and small groups, providing a safe place for fellowship and building relationships.
We desire to be a family of believers that prays for ourselves and others, to reach out and care deeply for one another.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
We seek to bring God’s Kingdom and message of salvation to our community, our country and the world.
We value a lifestyle of serving. Every person in God’s church is encouraged to embrace their gifts and abilities and use them to bring glory to Jesus. Serving wholeheartedly and giving generously is a mandate.
